Taylor's team wins championship! Taylor Coppenrath, former standout basketball player at St Johnsbury Academy and UVM finished a very successful year in Alicante, Spain. On Sunday, 5/31/09, the Lucentum Alicante professional basketball team won the championship of the LEB Gold Division in Spain with a win over Melilla 72 - 66. The win moves the team into the ACB Division from where the Euroleague teams play. Taylor played 27 ½ minutes, scoring 10 points and shutting down the paint on defense to the Melilla low post players. Over the season Taylor averaged about 10.6 pts and 4.5 rebounds per game playing about 20 minutes per game.
After graduating from UVM in 2005 Taylor played on the NBA summer league teams for the Boston Celtics, AEK in Athens, Greece 2005 -06; NBA Indiana Pacers summer league 2006; Angelico Biella in Biella, Italy 2006 – 07, and Lucentum Alicante for the past two seasons. Alicante had specifically wanted Taylor to help them ascend to the ACB based on his past European experience. It turned out to be a good decision as Alicante is now in the ACB!
Taylor returns to Vermont on Wednesday and will be hosting basketball camps in Winooski and St Johnsbury this summer.

More than 50 boys and
girls buzzed around a humid gymnasium Tuesday

Life is Great
... Except in Elevators
Life in Greece is certainly becoming easier as
I adjust to both the lifestyle and my new team.
I have really settled into my routine and I know
what to expect with games, practices and travel.
Lately, we have had some really good games where
it seems like we can't be beat by the best team;
on the other hand, we come out some nights and
play like we could be defeated by anyone...
It's All Greek to

Less than a month after he signed with Greek professional

Coppenrath hopped on a red eye flight to Athens.
He arrived on little sleep and was welcomed to
a country he didn't know by a driver who didn't
speak English...

TV, radio keep Brennan
involved in basketball
Tom Brennan is still working the officials. Before
a conference game, he sat on the sidelines talking
to and joking with the game's referees. But this
season, he's doing it from press row, not his
team's bench.
