Taylor and his team, Angelico Biella,
celebrate a huge victory over top Italian team
Montepaschi Siena on December 3rd. Siena had American players
such as Lonny Baxter (Maryland), Joe Forte (UNC),
Romain Sato (Xavier), and Terrell McIntyre
(Clemson).
Diary – Biella November ‘06
Well here I am again, back for another season
abroad! I think this year will be better than last
year and I hope we have more success in the
regular season.
I arrived in Milan in mid- September. I landed
early and therefore had to wait a little while for
my driver to pick me up. It was a similar feeling
to last year when I got to Athens. I felt like I
had been up all night because you land there at
what feels like two in the morning EST, but what
is really 8 am in Italy.
After a brief wait, I found Franco and we departed
for Biella by team van. As he drove, I wondered
how long it would take to get to my apartment so I
could try to go back to sleep. The only problem
was that I could not ask him because he did not
speak English and I don’t speak Italian. In that
regard, it was extremely similar to Greece when
the driver there spoke no English either.
The ride from the airport to Biella is extremely
confusing and I would have a hard time remembering
how to get there even if I drove that route
several times. We finally arrived at my apartment.
I had no time to even relax as the team manager
was there to take me to the doctor. In order to
receive my first paycheck, I had to pass a
physical immediately. As part of my examination, I
had to ride a bike for about 10 minutes. I guess
everything checked out ok and we went back to my
apartment to sleep for about four hours before I
attended practice. I was absolutely exhausted by
the time practice came around.
Unlike Greece, the team had bought me some food
and a few things that I needed before I arrived.
In Italy, we have to wash our own practice gear
and I don’t have a dishwasher, so I find myself
doing laundry and dishes all the time. I also don’t
have a microwave but I have been able to get by
using the stove and oven.
It is pretty convenient that there is a grocery
store that’s on the way from the gym to my
apartment. I usually stop and pick up groceries on
my way home from practice every few days or so. I
actually had to be driven around for the first few
days because the only car they had for me to drive
was a standard and I had never learned to drive
one until the day before I left. Once I began
driving however, I was able to grasp it quickly.
The first day was the only hurdle because I
stalled about 10 times or more going from the gym
to my apartment.
Well, that’s all for now. Keep checking back to
the website to follow my team’s progress
throughout the season!
